datafreedom is an independent and secure data platform specifically designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe. Our solution, developed in Germany, follows the strict requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other European data protection directives. It offers a data protection-compliant, flexible, and customizable alternative to international cloud services like Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. Datafreedom ensures that all data is processed according to the highest security standards and respective national requirements – regardless of which European country you operate in.
Risks with regular data exchange
Recognize the risks when dealing with well-known data collectors.
Data access by unauthorized parties
Without encryption, hackers can intercept and read data during transmission. Unencrypted data is visible to third parties and vulnerable to "man-in-the-middle" attacks.
No security updates
Regular security updates are important to defend against new threats. If the server is located outside of Europe or with less trustworthy providers, outdated software could lead to security vulnerabilities and increase the risk of attacks such as ransomware.
No data protection control
The European Union is known for its high data protection standards and clear legal frameworks. In contrast, many countries outside of Europe apply less stringent regulations, which can raise the risk of misuse or loss of sensitive data.
Undetected data manipulation
Without secure transmission, there is a risk that data can be altered or manipulated without notice. This could have serious consequences for data integrity and, for example, lead to errors in processed information.
Insecure data backup
Regular backups within Europe guarantee secure storage in a trustworthy and legally protected environment. Servers located outside of Europe often lack comparable local backup measures, increasing the risk of data loss in the event of system failures or cyber attacks.
Limited customer support
Perfect support in both German and English enables fast, locally adapted service in your own time zone. Without this support, problems with data transfer can become more time-consuming and serious, as you depend on global teams.

European data protection, secured to German standards
Hosting within your country or the European Union
Your data is stored in a dedicated, isolated portal within the European Union — physically located in Germany. This guarantees:
- Ensuring compliance with national and European data protection laws
- Maximum security ensured by geographically separated backups, with a minimum distance of 200 km in compliance with BSI guidelines.
- Protection against access by third parties (e.g., US Cloud Act)
End-to-end encryption
All data is encrypted during storage and transmission. This protects you from cyber attacks, ransomware, and unauthorized access.
- Server encryption: AES-256 encryption on isolated server volumes for each customer.
- Secure connection: Transmission between client and server via HTTP/3 TLS 1.3 AES-256, a standard considered secure even against future attacks by quantum computers.
- Continuous security updates: Our security stack is continuously kept up to date.
- Backups separately encrypted: All backups are additionally secured with AES-256 to ensure maximum data security.
BSI Compliance
We strictly adhere to the guidelines of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and ensure full compliance with EU-wide cybersecurity standards:
- No data analysis & sharing: Unlike large cloud providers, we do not analyze or sell your data. Your data remains private and protected.
- Security audits: Regular system checks according to BSI requirements

- Third backup location for disaster recovery: In addition to the primary and secondary locations, there is an additional backup location in the country specifically designated for disaster scenarios, in case of a serious failure at the main location.
- Automated recovery in emergencies: If a server fails, we restore the system from the last backup on the same day – maximum downtime: 12 hours.
- Backups separately encrypted: All backups are secured with AES-256 to ensure maximum security.
- Protection against ransomware & cyber attacks through modern security concepts.
Personal Support Without Waiting

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most important questions about datafreedom
What distinguishes datafreedom from other cloud providers?
datafreedom stands out through several key factors: Data is stored exclusively in Germany, ensuring full compliance with EU-wide and German data protection standards.. Unlike large providers, we do not analyze or sell your data, and you retain complete control over your information. Our personal support is directly accessible, without waiting queues, and our transparent pricing structure prevents hidden costs. We also offer complete customization of the platform according to your corporate identity requirements.
How secure is my data with datafreedom?
Your data is protected by multiple security layers developed in line with the guidelines of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and in compliance with EU cybersecurity standards. We use end-to-end encryption with the AES-256 standard, ensuring protection both during transmission and storage. Our servers are exclusively located in Germany and are subject to strict security protocols. We perform daily backups at geographically separated locations, with a minimum distance of 200 km as per BSI guidelines, and have an additional disaster recovery site. All security measures are regularly updated and reviewed to meet both BSI and EU standards.
Can I integrate datafreedom into my existing systems?
Yes, datafreedom is designed for seamless integration. We offer WebDAV support, allowing you to mount our platform as a network drive. Our synchronization client enables local data synchronization for offline access as well. For businesses, we offer custom SFTP access and support you free of charge with integration into your existing IT infrastructure. The platform is compatible with all common operating systems and devices.
How does datafreedom's pricing model work?
We offer transparent, scalable pricing models without hidden costs. Our basic package includes 250 GB for EUR 99 monthly, with additional 100 GB costing EUR 20 more each. All packages include unlimited data transfer, have no minimum contract term, and can be canceled monthly. There are no additional costs for user accounts – you can add unlimited users. For specific requirements, we would be happy to create an individual offer for you.
Which file types does datafreedom support?
datafreedom supports all common file types without restrictions. This includes documents (PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX), images (JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, etc.), audio and video files, archive files (ZIP, RAR, etc.), as well as special application files. For certain file types, we also offer direct preview functions in the browser. There are no artificial file size limitations apart from your total storage space.
How can I share files with external partners?
datafreedom offers several secure ways to share files. You can create temporary download links with validity periods you define yourself (from hours to months). For closer collaboration, you can set up protected workspaces where external partners have access to specific areas. All shared data remains encrypted, and you always maintain control – you can revoke access at any time. Optionally, you can also set up password protection and download limits for shared files.
What happens in case of a server failure or data loss?
We have implemented comprehensive measures against data loss. Our infrastructure is redundantly designed with daily backups at geographically separated locations. In case of a server failure, we restore your system from the last backup – with a maximum downtime of 12 hours. For extreme scenarios, we have a separate disaster recovery site that can be activated in an emergency. All backups are of course encrypted with AES-256 to guarantee the security of your data.
What does "Made in Europe" specifically mean at datafreedom?
For us, "Made in Europe" means more than just operating servers within Germany. It means that our entire security architecture is built according to European standards. We strictly follow the recommendations of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and ensure compliance with EU-wide cybersecurity regulations, including implementing geographically separated backup systems. Our servers and data are fully governed by European data protection laws. Unlike other cloud providers that may operate servers in Germany but are still subject to foreign laws (such as the US CLOUD Act), we offer a genuine European solution, fully compliant with both local and European data protection and security regulations.
